As needs for ever more specialized skills evolve, employers find themselves unable to attract talent – despite a large pool of available and competent workers. Many skills, particularly as it applies to software, are so specialized that the employer itself may not fully understand it, and is attempting to make a hire that will supplement its’ own institutional knowledge base.
Millennials, as well as all individuals seeking work, need to be able to constantly update their skills to reflect a rapidly changing technological landscape. Fortunately, in America, access to skills education can usually be found with an internet connection and a keyboard stroke. But young people also need to adopt a growth mindset. Learning does not stop once you’ve obtained your diploma. In fact, the journey is just beginning.
