As a proud of Alumn of an HBCU (Historically Black College and University), I was a bit dismayed at the president's originally statement on HBCU's as I recognize they play a crucial role in educating many African-Americans.
However, after reading the clarification by the White House, I was comforted in knowing the administration continues to support these precious institutions.
For many, HBCU's educate African-Americans who are the first in their family to attend college, it also uplifts students who may not have otherwise attended college. Often times, you hear stories from HBCU alum who didn't know if they could make through college go on to become doctors, lawyers, policeman, teachers and the list goes on and on.
These institutions are the backbone of the black middle class and I'm glad to know President will continue to support them for future generations to come.
