When people work full time and still cannot meet basic needs, something in the economic covenant has weakened. Government cannot guarantee success, nor should it remove the responsibility of individuals to strive, learn and persevere. But public policy should not make advancement harder through reckless spending, inflation, excessive taxation or regulations that protect established interests while suffocating new enterprise.
